Director's Seminar Series 2010 - 2011
The Connecticut After School Network is offering a special package to after school program Directors and Site Coordinators throughout the 2010 - 2011 academic year. These offerings will aid in building the leadership capacity, professional competencies and ability to recruit and retain staff in your after school programs.
The Seminar Series is a mix of two-hour workshops, a specialized conference and a two-day intensive training. Each one of these may be taken individually, however to get the maximum benefit of the series, enrollment in all sessions is recommended.
The Director's Roundtable Luncheons are a unique opportunity for Directors and Site Coordinators to get together over an informal lunch to discuss timely issues and challenges, and to offer real life examples and strategies for solving common problems. Director's Roundtable agendas are set by the participants and agreed upon by vote.
We hope that you take advantage of this valuable offering. If you have questions, please contact Ken Anthony, Director of Professional Development, at kanthony@ctafterschoolnetwork.org or 860-730-2942.

Hiring and Firing from a Legal Perspective

What happens when the staff person you thought was going to be so good is not? This workshop will share the legal perspective on one of the most important quality factors in your program.

Fostering Project Based Learning in After School Programs
Many after school programs across the country struggle to engage young people, especially when trying to integrate academic content. Project-Based Learning or PBL has proven to be one strategy to both motivate and engage after school participants and support out-of-school academic enrichment. The challenge is often building programmatic capacity to support PBL and training after school educators to facilitate meaningful PBL experiences. This workshop will guide trainers in a discussion of many of the core elements of effective PBL and an exploration of how best to support sites through training on these principles. Together or separately, trainers will envision an action plan for the state to foster more PBL through their own efforts and work on the site level.
